Solar Powered Bike- eco friendly

picture compliments of ecogeek.org.

Before I showed you the solar umbrella.
Now there is a solar powered bike.
The bike automatically charges the batteries on the bike for later use. It can go up to 19 miles an hour.
You really don't need to go more than that do to safety concerns.
The bike sells for $1,295 and there is a conversion kit for your current bike that costs $795.
I like the conversion kit idea. Wouldn't want to fill up those landfills any faster.

Go to there website for more info:

It would be nice to get some feed back on anyone who owns this bike.

major fail. this is a total spoof. Only a complete idiot would put the solar panels in the wheel - they'd get dirty, and the electrical connections would be a disaster, not to mention the current-limiting shading intrinsic to this design. And you'd use a much lighter bike than a Norco. wheres the motor? Where's the battery? The badly photoshopped PV wheels don't even reflect it's environment accurately, not to mention that solar panels aren't supposed to be reflective. Lastly I'd expect an actually solar powered bike with these fake specs to cost a lot more. The panel plus the motor and battery together should come to at least $1500, then you add the bike, then the engineering. Final cost: $3000.

Actually the way to do this is to mount the panel on your house to feed the grid, then plug your bike into the grid anytime you need to charge the batteries. Ideally the net sum would be 0 - meaning that you're using as much electricity as you're producing ... ie. solar powered bike. It doesn't make sense hauling around a big panel (and that's what it would take) to power a bike ... too heavy and awkward - would be a wind sail.

So I say: major fail.
